If there is something nasty going on with the occult, if there is something supernaturally suspicious happening that needs a quick, hard and not so clean resolution –William Gravel is your man. He is a ‘Combat magician’, a tough, no nonsense British SAS soldier who uses magic as well as his considerable physical training to resolve the deadliest of situations.
Warren Ellis’ (he is on scripting duties, he may well be executive producing too) creation is to be brought to the big screen by Legendary Pictures (Clash of the Titans, Batman Begins, Watchmen). Now I’ve read a couple of the collected series in trade paperback featuring Mr. Gravel (Strange Killings, Strange Killings: the Body Orchard ) and liked them. They are not for the faint hearted. The art (by co creator, Mike Wolfer) was as uncompromising as the characters methods and as entertaining too.

To give you a better idea of things think; Nick Fury meets X-files, meets John Woo, meets some of the more bizarre scenes in Brian Yuzna’s ‘Society’.
There are no dates or actors or a director that we know of yet. But if you’d like to get an idea of what it might be like then have a look at the decidedly mature reads published by Avatar Press. There is an ongoing series devoted to the character too, and it bears his name. ‘Gravel’ is available now. Excellent.
