Doctor Doom has almost defeated the Fantastic Four and the nation of Wakanda headed by the Black Panther family. But T’Challa, the former king of Wakanda pulls out an x factor – enter Deadpool. This issue captured the humour in Deadpool as well as the drama and the stakes of this war against Doctor Doom. This issue has echoes of the first Black Panther series by Reggie Hudlin when black super heroes would show up and team up with him. There always seem to be a special connection between them. Well when War Machine showed up, I felt some relief for the Wakandans as they had some heavy duty back up to help them. This is really a great series and it’s too bad that it’s not a center stage Marvel Comics event but a throw away mini-series that doesn’t force the reader to buy multiple series to figure out what’s going on. Eaton continues to be the best Black Panther artist in years, so he just continues with the good art here. The cover by Romita is atrocious, but he’s here to draw the sales in. Based on this cover, I would never have bought that comic book.
