The Secret Six in a rematch with the Doom Patrol.

Sadly, this title is apparently due to be cancelled. This was a unique and quirky comic book that was certainly different from most titles on the stands nowadays.

This issue does showcase that unique perspective but it also shows us why this title has not met with more success.

The story opens with the Six and the Patrol already going at it-- no explanation for those who missed the previous issue or are unaware of the animosity between the two teams. But instead of having a non-stop battle, the fight is frequently interrupted by arguments among team members, conversations between antagonists and segues about the mad scientists on the Doom Patrol's island. This not only makes the story confusing, it also squanders the dramatic momentum of the story, a serious mistake in a tale that is suppose to be about a battle.

The art is detailed and very lush but it strangely feels rather cold for a story about a violent grudge fight. And at one point, with all the size-changing characters flying about, it actually becomes hard to tell what is going on.

While this title is filled with interesting characters and situations, the creators may have unintentionally alienated potential fans by making the comic hard to follow. Perhaps they were trying to hard to be "quirky" to match editions of the DOOM PATROL.
