He has been hired by the mothers of the victims. However, reporter Jack Ryder decides to investigate the new Deathstroke who does not use guns. But Jack Ryder is also the lunatic super hero known as the Creeper and he has another goal for the fake Deathstroke. Where is the real Deathstroke? This was a pleasant issue that dealt with the violence in Chicago very well while reintroducing the Creeper in the Rebirth DC universe. I’m quite glad that the Creeper seems to be back to his classic self without all of the confusing origins. Not much has been revealed about this origin but this is the classic Creeper creeping in Deathstroke’s book. It’s an odd pairing but Christopher Priest does not push the Creeper appearances too much. Blink and you’ll miss him! I find that the Creeper as originally created by Steve Ditko can be seen as an alternate version of Captain America and Spider-man. Now Deathstroke owes a lot to Captain America and Taskmaster. So there is a lot of commonalities between the Creeper and Deathstroke that Priest explores very very subtly. Both have healing powers and enhanced strength. Hey also use technology as part of their arsenal and are considered borderline nuts by most. A fight between the two would have been great but maybe another time! Dennys Cowan is back! And he’s inked by Bill Sienkiewicz. Hum, what can I say about this? With Priest, this is one of the strongest line up of classic comics greats working together. I’ve complained about guest artists not fitting the current series’ look. Because this was a one shot with the Creeper, which mind you fit the rest of the series’ continuity, I can only say that I was impressed with this comic. It’s the best one so far.
