Superman is scolded for never having captured Deathstroke. Elsewhere, Jericho prepares his new life as a super hero and continues to plot over how to get his revenge against his father. Slade Wilson meets his ex-wife Adeline who still hates him and wants to kill him.

Last issue was a gem. This one is still rough but not coal. That’s the problem with Christopher Priest! When you think that you finally have a handling on what he’s doing, he goes deep and confuses you even more. I’ve been complaining about this since the Rebirth issue. The thing is Deathstroke is the perfect series for a writer like Christopher Priest.

Deathstroke was always portrayed as a master strategist. Priest is playing that angle and adds the sequential movie editing of films like Pulp Fiction. The one reason that I can still follow and enjoy this comic is because Priest is revisiting older Deathstroke storylines and tropes that happened in his earlier appearances before the New 52.

There was a confrontation with Superman in his first series. One with Batman. Adeline was always trying to kill him. Jericho had a conflicting relationship with his father. One version of the Vigilante was Deathstroke’s lover. All is there. It’s just that Priest twists and adds more layers to previous stories that were already excellent. Consider this storyline as sort of Deathstroke Year One. I’m just afraid that Jericho is aiming to high and might end up dead at the end of this story. Deathstroke has killed him several before so it would not be a surprise.

Carlo Pagulayan draws the best Superman I have seen this year. Larry Hama’s page breakdown with the Superman interrogation was priceless.
