The greatest game you’ve never played and probably never even heard of, Darwinia for the PC. Darwinia has been on the market for over a year but, the game had a tough time finding the light of day thanks to close-minded publishers. It’s 2007 now and we’ve all smartened up a little, except Uwe Boll…he just won’t stop making movies, anyway Darwinia is becoming more and more available besides downloading it from the developers website www.savedarwinia.com you might even be able to find this little gem on Xbox Live Arcade soon. If you consider yourself a true gamer you owe it to yourself to hunt this one down Wolverine style. Shnikt!
Darwinia is part real time strategy, part action, part puzzle solving, with a little bit of bug extermination thrown in for good measure. Players enter a virtual world created by computer genius Dr. Sepulveda who’s concerned about saving the tiny green Darwinians and needs your help. Darwinians are intelligently designed tiny green A.I. characters that’ve evolved over many generations to populate the strange world that is Darwinia. They have free thought, free will, no health insurance, and tiny little crushable souls. The thing is all is not well in Darwinia, it seems that some nefarious force has unleashed a blood thirsty…..or rather electron thirsty virus on the innocent little Darwinians.
Throughout the game Dr. Sepulveda provides you with a few vague clues on how to destroy the virus but it takes awhile before you figure out what exactly it is you’re supposed to be doing. The game-play is great discovering how to create and use your units effectively is really the best part of Darwinia. You have squads for the fierce ground fighting and one thing you learn very fast is that the viral enemies you battle are bloodthirsty beasts! You can also call up engineers, who look suspiciously like the Recognizers from Tron, for menial tasks like collecting the souls of your dead enemies, by collecting souls you can resurrect more Darwinians to add to your troops. The whole visual world of Darwinia owes a lot, and I mean a lot to Tron. Overall Darwinia is a great simple game with only one problem, it’s over too soon! If you have spare $20 bucks I’d go to your local GameStop or EB Games and pick this game up I recommend it to any gamer PC or not and it isn’t just me who loves this game PCGamer.com says, “Darwinia will remind you why you love gaming so much” and IGN.com said, “It reminds me of the good old days when creativity reigned over marketing ploys and safe choices.” So there you have it, Darwinia is without a doubt, a must have for any gamer.
