As reported at Newsarama and Marvel.com Marvel Television and ABC Television Studios have entered into a deal to make four 13 episode television series based upon long standing "street level" Marvel Comics heroes Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. The culmination of the series will reportedly be a Defenders mini series. Looks like Marvel Comics' street level cred, Hell's Kitchen based heroes aren't quite big enough in stature to command big screen attention (at least not yet), but will be the first superheroes showcased in a groundbreaking venture between Marvel, ABC, and Netflix. The following quote is from Marvel.com, and sums up the announcement nicely:
"Led by a series focused on "Daredevil," followed by "Jessica Jones,"
"Iron Fist" and "Luke Cage," the epic will unfold over multiple years of
original programming, taking Netflix members deep into the gritty world
of heroes and villains of Hell's Kitchen, New York. Netflix has
committed to a minimum of four, thirteen episodes series and a
culminating Marvel's "The Defenders" mini-series event that reimagines a
dream team of self-sacrificing, heroic characters."
