Daredevil confronts the ninja cult known as the Hand as
well as its new field leader, Lady Bullseye. In his quest, Iron Fist and new
martial arts Master Izo aid him against the ninjas who have recruited some of
Daredevil’s former allies. Can Daredevil defeat the Hand and Lady Bullseye?
Although a quick read, it was a good issue. Brubaker is
doing something interesting here. Using old lore from Daredevil’s past, he’s
expanding and adding layers to the crime fighter’s existence. Something else
which I have come to enjoy is how Iron Fist has been transformed into a natural
ally of Daredevil, the way Luke Cage and Spider-man used to be. He fits
Daredevil’s environment quite, specifically in a martial arts related story.
The only drawback to this story is with readers unfamiliar with Daredevil’s
history. Although no specific prior reading of this issue is needed, without,
the story doesn’t have the same multilayered richness.
The art team on this series does what few can. It
integrates different chapters drawn by different teams smoothly, making it unnoticeable
for the casual reader to pin point where one artist started and left off. Of
course each artist in this series works solely to carry the story forward and
there are no wasted panels or posters showing the prowess of individual
artists. It’s a team effort that pays off quite well.
