Waid continues to write Daredevil for a new audience, revisiting the character’s powers and abilities and explaining to readers how they work. I like that. As an old Daredevil fan, I know all about him, but it’s always fun to be reminded exactly. Moreover, this makes this series, even this issue which is already part of an ongoing one, a perfect jumping point for someone who wants to discover the world of Daredevil. Other touches that I like were how his crazy past was referred to, without having to delve into complicated continuity. As for the subplots with Foggy trying to find Matt a date, that was fun too. This issue was quite enjoyable. I was afraid that Waid was not investing some of his soul and insight in this story. Perhaps he was but very slowly. It’s finally coming together now, and this run with Waid as the writer should be memorable.
Martin is not Lee Weeks, but his works is perfectly suitable for this series. He’s not too big on drawing Daredevil jumping around, but his storytelling is excellent He casually moves the story along and as reader, I never feel overwhelmed. There is just enough visual information to carry us through. It’s refreshing.
