Captain America teams up with Namor, the Submariner in an
attempt to find an old Chinese mad scientist that holds the Golden Age super
hero, the Human Torch captive. Travelling to China, Captain America adopts the
guise of his Russian self, the Winter Soldier to alert the Chinese authorities
who have put him on a special watch. Will his and Namor plan work?
It’s a reunion story of sort that seems to be gearing up
for a celebration of the 70th Marvel Comics year, featuring its
classical headliner characters. The story flashes back and forth to the 1940s showing
scenes where the Invaders, the team composed of the original Captain America,
Namor and the Human Torch, used to fight the Nazis. The highlight of the issue
is of course the interaction of two old war buddies, the Namor and Captain
America. Namor seems to have problems accepting that the former sidekick of the
original Captain America now wears his colours.
The highlight of this issue, is of course the artwork
which gives Namor unique features, although his head is not as triangular as in
other comic books. Don’t let the cover fool you, Captain America does not fight
Namor. However, it’s interesting to see Namor rendered in a crime noir series.
