I immediately identified with the characters in a way that is rare among contempory fiction. Having listened to it via audio book and read it in it's early print form I give this novel my highest recommendation. Although it's no longer available in the previous print on demand version, it's still available for free in podcast form. The podcast is especially valuable because the work is read in it's entirety by the author himself.
