Bat
Woman and Renée Montoya have spent a week in the catacombs beneath Madrid. In
the lair of the Minotaur, they have been reunited with their son, who had died
at the hands of the Cheetah. But guilt led her to locate a Lazarus Pit, and
bring the boy back to life. But as the pit can restore, so too can it remove,
and Kate and Renée are beginning to realize this may not be the boy they once
knew.
Meanwhile in
the skies above, Miri Marvel has come looking for Bat Woman, and falls into a
trap laid by Black Adam. The fact that they share the common heritage of the
wizard Shazam only makes the snare more potent. How can three mortal women
stand against the might of Black Adam?
I started
off this issue a wee bit confused. It says #11 on the cover, but last issue was
#9, so I don’t know what happened to #10. The chapters seem to read
consistently, so I assume it’s an editorial error.
But other
than the re-introduction of Miri Marvel, little has changed since last issue.
I’m amazed it took 21 pages to tell this story. It’s a common observation with
modern comics. The amount they cost, I expect a more compact story – dense with
action and drama.
The art by
Mirka Andolfo and David Hahn for this issue is somewhat weak as well. The first
portion of the book is fine, but in the second half, the work seems very flat
and stiff. I can appreciate its simplicity, but the figures seem to have a
rigidity that I can’t get past.
