Few series are as twisted yet deeply moving as Bokurano Ours. The series’ focus on children trading their lives for their city can be hard to sit through, not because of graphic content but from a psychological perspective. There is something unsettling about children being chosen at random to die. Never the less, the story pushes forward.

With Volume 3, the series takes an unexpected turn as the military finally involves itself. This is only logical, considering the city has been attacked on several occasions at this point and one would figure the government would want to take action to prevent it from happening again.

Things heat up when it’s Kako’s turn to pilot the beast. The boy loses himself to the pressure and goes berserk, attacking his friends.  All hope seems lost until a shocking intervention is made that creates more problems for the group.

Bokurano Ours is a gripping read. It’s not very often when a story is genuinely suspenseful and can keep the audience guessing. A fantastic tale of shattered innocence, volume 3 piles on the twists and adds several new layers to the characters that prevents the series from becoming stale.
