Comics News Binquirer May 9 2014 Edition By Hervé St-Louis May 9, 2014 - 09:46 Religion and Comics Jewish Women and Comics The deadline for a call for abstracts for Graphic Details: Confessional Comics by Jewish Women is May 15th, 2014. The London-based New Jewish Community Centre is organizing a one day symposium on November 12, 2014. This call is for Anyone who does work related to the literary, religious, and gender and sexuality of Jewish women and comics.  An exhibition of Graphic Details happened at the Jewish Museum of Florida in Miami between November 2013- and February 2014. Sunday School Comics Cartoonists and scholars Asher J. Klassen and A. David Lewis created an eight-page comic about the pedagogical value of comics in teaching religion. The comic has will be part of the Kelowna Art Gallery's Superheroes and Supervillains. The exhibition in Kelowna, British Columbia opens in January 2015. More information as it progresses. Comics to Television Marvel Television Marvel announced late last night that ABC has renewed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for a second season. The show adapts the modern version of the S.H.I.E.L.D. comic book for the generic Marvel cinematographic universe. In related news, ABC has also picked up Marvel’s Agent Carter as a new series for the fall 2014 season. The Adventures of Batman Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will release The Adventures of Batman on DVD on June 3, 2014. The DVD contains old Batman cartoons from The Batman/Superman Hour animated series from 1968. It's the first time Warner releases these cartoons. Lou Schiemer’s Filmation Studios created them. The stories feature classic Batman villains like Mr. Freeze, Joker, Catwoman and Penguin. The two disc set includes 17 episodes (with two stories each) in all and retails for $19.99. Books Classics Pulp – Domino Lady Moonstone will publish novels of classic pulp characters in September 2014. The first is Domino Lady: “Money Shot” (ISBN: 978-1-936814-83). Bobby Nash and Howard Hopkins write the 216 pages novel. Artist Doug Klauba provides the cover and illustrations. Domino Lady is a classic pulp character from the 1930s. The Green Lama The other pulp hero published by Moonstone is The Green Lama. Adam Lance Garcia writes the new the new novel while Mike Flyes provides the cover and some artwork.
