- This is one complicated book and one would expect such a crossover to be complex, but this seems almost too complicated which could confuse( and would have made me completely lost if I didn’t listen to Weird Science podcast)
- This s a dark nights metal tie-in
- The knights are Barbatos knights from the dark multiverse
- This issue seems to take place mainly in Bruce Wayne’s mind which makes me wonder if the dark multi verse is metaphysical which was inadvertently manifested by Batman’s actions
- See what I mean about confusing?
This issue opens with a gorgeous full page splash of an old man sitting in an armchair, the reader turns the page and discovers that is old man is Bruce Wayne and his granddaughter is asking for a batman story, and she picks the first one from detective Comics #27.(thanks to Weird Science podcast for that info).
Then the narrative flashes back to scenes from or similar to Morrison's The Return of Bruce Wayne arc. Or a variance thereof. Point is a lot happens in this issue and nothing happens but important thing is Bruce Wayne seems to be Barbato's captive and a lot of the darkness from Dark Nights Metal is a symbol of the darkness inside Batman’s head which allowed Barbatos into the main DC dimension.
There is a lot of homage paid to both Grant Morrison and the various continuity of Batman within the crossover and especially this comic. It really highlights the highlights of the Batman mythos, yet also seems to strip the character down to who he is and builds suspense as to the direction Bruce Wayne the batman will go in the future.
The art is good, not my favourite in DC right now but good enough.
