His first targeted recruit is a Japanese man known as Mr. Unknown. But Mr. Unknown has already been captured and tortured by his arch enemy Lord Death. Can Batman save him in time? Batman is working with Catwoman and seems to be happy about. He’s not smiling, but he’s not brooding anymore. I’m happy to say that Morrison restrained himself here and didn’t go post structuralist on people in this series. Batman and Robin tend to be painful to read, but this story is straightforward although there is a hint of craziness about it in the form of Lord Death. I’m not sure where the story will go with all the Batmen’s recruitment, but it is a concept worth exploring. There’s not enough to make sense of whether this series will be good, but so far so good. We do know one thing, Morrison will stick around for a while. That’s no longer frequent in recent years with big name creators. The highlight of the series is of course Paquette’s work. It’s soft and well inked. The drawings are solid. I love his Catwoman and his interpretation of the new Batman suit.
