This is undoubtedly the sexiest Batman comic I’ve ever read. I never thought I’d write those words, but there it is.

The heat gets turned up between Batman and Catwoman, or “Bat” and “Cat” as they affectionately call each other. After the events of previous issues, Catwoman is about to do hard time for the deaths of many people (over 200!), but Batman knows she isn’t a killer and vows to see to it that she’ll be free. But first she’ll need to head to jail, and ol’ Bats will be the one to escort her. But what if they could have one night together, to do as they pleased? That’s the premise of this issue. And what they do together is both expected and surprising. And did I mention it’s sexy? Because there’s that too.

Tom King is having a good time penning these books. With the freedom of nonconformity, he embraces a storytelling mode that is unrushed but pulsating as pages land like drumbeats and characters are swept toward an unknown fate. This has served him well thus far and the uncertainty and depth of emotion make his vulnerable characters compelling.

Mitch Gerad’s art is a strong fit for this issue’s dreamlike whirlwind of love and crime-fighting. He can portray scenes of action and explosions as well as romantic embraces and all the complicated emotions it can create.

This isn’t your daddy’s Batman, and that keeps the character and the book fresh. No complaints here!
