Batman, still held captive, will be executed so that others may learn about how to become Batman and eventually replace him. But he asked Batman if this new plot was to his liking. He may just have to change parts of the plan.

This story would have felt like a random Batman story from the 1990s were it not for the existential questions that he asks himself throughout this issue.

This is where there is a problem with this story. If it were not for the spin of grander than nature thoughts in Batman’s head, it wouldn’t be fun. That means that Morrison did not polish the plot and chose instead to act like an intellectual. Unfortunately for Morrison, everything has been said and written about Batman. The writer has little room to manoeuvre here. But it seems that he wants to build a big epic out of the thin elements of what an anti-Batman would be like. Let’s hope he finds something else to beef up his storyline with.

Looking at Daniel’s work and many comic books published by Marvel Comics, I’m amazed at how DC Comics stays closer to the traditional comic book styles in its super hero comic books. Marvel Comics is more willing to experiment and give each series a visual identity of its own. Mind you, Daniel’s work is solid. It’s just not sexy enough.
