Batman is in the desert in a country called Khadym with Catwoman looking for Talia Al Ghul. What does he want with her? Can Alfred’s betraying of his secret to the Robins change something. Will the Justice League come after Batman for breaking an international law?

This issue was reflective, as many of Tom King’s are. The quiet panels help the pace and make the story appear larger than life. There is a matter of fact quality to Catwoman putting a horse out of its misery. The looks, the pauses, the words not said are as powerful. The humour is subtle. Notice the interaction between the Robins. How Jason Todd blamed the wrong Robin. It’s fun how all of this issue is just a reintroduction to Talia. I even like the display of her polygamy and “liberated” sexuality.

The world does need less of Joëlle Jones. I enjoyed her heavy inks in these pages, making the desert scenes look ominous. Again, much of her work this issue helps King reintroduce Talia in a grandiose way. Jones’ Catwoman is pulpy and sensuous. Her Batman is restricted, compact, not svelte and expansive. It works well.

Having read the rest of this brief chapter, I can say that the setup was more than the overall story, but it was still very enjoyable.
