Captain America is looking for the Winter Soldier whom he suspects is really Bucky while the rest of the Avengers try to stop a series of giant sleeper robots created by the Red Skull, from attacking Washington D.C. What is the connection of the Winter Soldier with the Red Skull? Will Nick Fury allow Captain America to find the Winter Soldier?

This episode starts with an interrogation scene with Captain America trying to find out more about the Winter Soldier and the secret plans of the Red Skull. But before he can get any kind of information, the carrier where the Red Skull is imprisoned is attacked by a giant robot who I swear had a vibranium armour, but it wasn’t really cleared up in the episodes. Of course Captain America and the Avengers that join him after the attack, Iron Man and Miss Marvel cannot stop the robot before the Red Skull is freed.

All the Avengers scramble to find the other sleeper robots whose weaponry includes secret armaments from the United States. During his time as a sleeper agent and the secretary of defense, the Red Skull was able to obtain many secrets about American weapons. Although in this episode and the previous one, it’s mentioned that the Red Skull works with H.Y.D.R.A. it’s not quite clear exactly what was his rank within that organization. H.Y.D.R.A. was the big villain in season one, so I probably should go watch some of the older episodes on DVDs and figure out more about that.

Iron Man suggests to Captain America that he should seek the help of Nick Fury, the world’s best spy to find the Winter Soldier. Fury reveals to Cap that the Winter Soldier has been involved in many terrorist acts over decades and has never been captured. It’s also revealed that the Winter Soldier is responsible for Nick Fury losing his eye. What I didn’t understand is exactly how the Winter Soldier was able to snap out of the Red Skull’s control. The resolution to the episode was simple, with the sleeper robots taking a page from the Transformers’ playbook by transforming and combining into a giant robot. Wonder if they’ll make a toy out of that!
