That's half a page and three lines of dialogue. The rest of the issue focused on Mera. I like Mera from what I’ve seen in previous issues, but having no previous experience with the Aquaman universe, I know very little about her. Aquaman #6 begins to fill in her back story and flesh out her character a bit more, and it does so by sending her on a very mundane mission: to purchase dog food. Of course nothing is as simple as it first seems, and Mera, beautiful and wearing her skin-tight armour, ends up breaking a sleazy shopkeepers arm. The writing in Aquaman flows so well that the story moves quickly and naturally, but there are times when Johns inserts such a simple and effective piece of dialogue that I’m forced to stop and admire it. An example of this is when the shopkeeper, holding his arm, whimpers that Mera broke his arm. Mera responds, rather matter-of-factly, “Of course, I did. This man touched me. I asked him to stop. He did not. I could have done much worse.” Needless to say, the police arrive and things begin to get out of hand. In addition to exploring Mera’s character, the issue also introduces some of the history surrounding Aquaman and Mera, and why she now lives on land.
