Clark Kent, also known as Superman is fired from the Daily Planet because, according to Perry White, the editor in chief of the newspaper, he has gotten lazy and allowed new upstart the Daily Star to name the new super hero haunting the skies of Metropolis. Can Clack Kent regain his job from the Daily Planet or does he really owes all of his success as a writer to the fact that as Superman, he could cover more?
This issue gets back in action and it’s about time too. The story about Clark Kent is fun while showing that Superman’s alter ego really has some journalist’s instincts. It’s small touches like him buying off the camera of a bystander while trying to land the story of the century that really show his character and make people interested in him again. The story with Black Adam’s captive is also interesting and builds a potential love interest for te character. I can already see echos of the King and I. Where is Yul Brynner?
The artwork is standard with some gritty inks. As usual the storytelling is easy to follow, as it was designed by Keith Giffen. The creative team seems to be picking up some steam. It’s about time as many issues from recent weeks were just dull.
