“Drenched in Love!”

Pichi Pichi Pitch Volume 2 is the story of Lucia. More to the point, Volume 2 is all about ‘affairs of the heart’ and Lucia seems to be having her fair share of issues when it comes to the opposite sex.

Lucia isn’t like other girls. Lucia is a mermaid who saved a human boy seven years ago and had to become human so she could retrieve a pearl she gave to him. The problem is that Lucia ended up falling for this boy. On top of that, Lucia and the other mermaids are under threat from Gackto who seems to be trying to corrupt the good mermaids of the Seven Seas. Lucia’s life seems to be one problem after another.

Pichi Pichi Pitch is the charming story of a mermaid princess falling in love. To make things more exciting, the fantastical element of Lucia actually being a mermaid that falls in love with a human adds the ill-requited love aspect to the story. In a lot of ways, Pichi Pichi Pitch is all about relationships of the heart but with some interesting twists.

The layout of this manga is great. Pink Hanamori goes into a lot of detail with regards to the characters of this manga. She writes about their backgrounds and personalities as if they were real (basing some of the characters in this manga on real people helps to achieve this) and she happily elaborates on some of the finer points of the storyline. The detail is really apparent and makes a very big difference to the way this manga develops. Without so much depth, the story wouldn’t be anywhere near as interesting.

The artwork is also very good but we did notice a few spelling errors and missed words in the storyboards. We weren’t too worried about a couple of errors in the text. The artwork and storyline are good enough to overlook such things.
