MTV, MTV Games and Pepsi announced a new summer cross-promotion today. The new multi-platform Drink Up, Rock Out promotion is set to give away thousands of Rock Band DLC music tracks and games, as well as give people the opportunity the chance to participate in the first-ever Pepsi Rock Band music video contest, which will award one talented band a 2009 MTV Video Music Awards Moonman (trophy). This summer promotion will run from June 2 through to the MTV Video Music Awards, which currently has no publicly confirmed date.

There are a number of ways to win in the Drink Up, Rock Out promotion. The first is to pick up a specially-marked 20 ounce or 1 litre bottle of Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, Pepsi Max or other Pepsi product and enter the code under the cap at www.pepsirockband.com for a chance to win prizes. During the promotion, MTV and Pepsi will be giving away a Rock Band 2 Special Edition bundle every hour thousands of Rock Band downloadable tracks each day. The second is to enter a weekly sweepstakes for the opportunity to win a trip to a Harrah’s Entertainment property, Xbox 360 Consoles and other great prizes.

Finally, for the extremely dedicated Rock Band bands out there, Pepsi, Rock Band and MTV are giving you the opportunity to win an MTV Video Music Award Moonman. All you have to do is choose a song from the official competition list at www.rockband.com/pepsi and start making a Rock Band music video. Once the video is made, you can upload it to www.pepsirockband.com, where other bands and fans will be able to enter , view and vote on their favourite Rock Band music videos. Your band can submit its own video any time between June 2nd and July 28th, but you may want to film and prepare it for upload on June 2nd (before 6 p.m. Eastern Time) specifically, because MTV Games will be jump starting the promotion by giving you the chance to win a trip to Los Angles the very next day, to be the house band at the Rock Band booth at E3 Expo 2009. However, you still have to enter at www.rockband.com/pepsi separately on June 2nd to be entered into the E3 prize draw. Confusing enough for you yet?

MTV will begin accepting votes on the video submissions on August 8th, after the submission process has ended, through September 1st. The winning band will travel to the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, walk the red carpet, receive their very-own Moonman statue, and will be featured in a spot produced by MTV to air the night of the awards show. MTV Networks will also be running spots for the promotion across its various channels.

Now, here's the bad news. The Drink Up, Rock Out promotion is only open to Americans. For more details, go to www.rockband.com/pepsi.
