Omega Men # 1 (of 6)
DC COMICS
WRITER: Andersen Gabrych
ARTIST/COVER: Henry Flint

The Omega Men have returned and they are blowing up churches and killing people-- but it is all for a good cause. A strange new religion has taken over the Vega system and spread all over the galaxy. Even the Spider Guild has converted but the Omega Men apparently know something no one else in the universe knows so they are hunting for some mysterious artifacts even while L.E.G.I.O.N. and the Guardians of the Universe seek to stop them. There is real suspense and a sense of genuine desperation in this tale where it looks like the Omega Men team is really on its last legs against overwhelming odds. Unfortunately, both the writing and art in this comic are rather muddled. Barely any attempt is made to explain the extensive back story of the Omega Men and all the related characters. Zamorans, Darkstars, Vril Dox just come out of nowhere and we are suppose to know who they are. Ironically, in one of the few pages where the writer tries to provide information-- on the Philippines of all places, he makes several glaring mistakes. The art, while very gritty-looking, is just too confusing with all its explosions, smoke, light and twisted-looking aliens. This book is apparently linked to the whole "Lady Styx" storyline that is brewing in various DC comics but only die-hard Omega Men fans may put up with it.
