X-MEN #157 "DAY OF THE ATOM" pt. 1

Many things are changing within the lives of the X-Men, but they are striving to stand strong. The Institute has been rebuilt and new teams have been formed. So what does the future hold for them!?!

This was a really enjoyable read! You really don't need to have read anything else to understand what's going on. But if you do, the cohesiveness of this story is a perfect fit to what's happening in the other books. The opening of this story is intriguing and has you wondering. The rest is a nice set up; we meet two new students, whose tour fills us in on a lot of stuff we need to know. The Wolverine line in Cyclops office was priceless :) The dialogue was good throughout and the ending definitely leaves you wondering.

I'm not lying to you here, but that opening page really looked like a photograph at first glance. Larroca's really on top form here. And we can't forget Udon, for a great use of colours. The school is captured well and we see some really nice character designs. Joshua's wings are proportioned nicely and Sammy's interesting, but Iceman, damn Larroca hit it spot on with him. And the cover, it's not until you actually see it up close, until you realise how well it's done.

Report Card - B+
