Emmy and Hugo Award-winning graphic artist Rick Sternbach has joined the team to design some specific costume elements and prop equipment for the upcoming episode, “Blood and Fire”. Rick along with Andy Probert were the first two graphic and design artists hired for Star Trek: The Next Generation. Many of the best known props, such as the new style hand phasers, tri-corders, PADDs, and the Communicator Badge, as well as many other ships, sets, costumes, Trek Tech, (just about anything else you can think of) were designed by Sternbach for The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager and several of the Star Trek movies. Along with Michael Okuda, Sternbach established and expanded many the concepts of the technology encountered in the Star Trek universe, including Warp Technology, Inertial Dampener Systems, the Transporter, and Structural Integrity Fields, which led to developing the now familiar Tech Manuals for several of the series.
“We were really having a bit of difficulty with some specific equipment and costume design elements for this episode,” said Senior Executive Producer James Cawley. “Rick has agreed to tackle these designs, which will give him an opportunity to develop some TOS era technology. “I cant wait to see what he will come up with.”
