Oni Press announced that BANANA SUNDAY, the fun filled mini-series by Colleen Coover and Root Nibot will be available in a trade paperback collection this March. Comprising the four issues that made up the mini-series, this collection is full of the laughs and adventure that only three talking primates can deliver.

“BANANA SUNDAY is a series that’s perfectly suited for a trade paperback collection,” commented Oni Press Editor in Chief James Lucas Jones. “Because it’s a self contained story, the collection is perfect for readers discovering Kirby, GoGo, Chuck and Knobby for the first time, as well as those who already love the little scamps and want their whole story in one convenient package.”

BANANA SUNDAY is the story of Kirby, a young woman starting a new school with a bit more to make her stand out than your regular new student. She is the guardian of three talking primates: an intelligent orangutan, a flirty spider monkey, and a slow but adorable gorilla. How they can talk is a mystery that Kirby’s new best friend, intrepid school reporter Nickels, is determined to find out. Will Kirby ever be able to fit in, find friends and find love, all the while chasing three trouble making monkeys around the school?

“The term ‘all ages’ gets thrown around a lot,” commented Jones, “and most of the time it ends up referring to books that are kid safe while being adult boring. When I think of all ages, I think of the old Looney Toons cartoons; stories that appealed, literally, to all ages, young and old. I think BANANA SUNDAY fits into that mold, as a book that kids, teenagers, and adults can all enjoy.”

Much of the wide spread appeal of BANANA SUNDAY comes from the interplay between Kirby and her high school counterparts, and the three rambunctious monkeys.

“I didn’t decide on three monkeys as characters because of the Infantino rule of comics, which states that a monkey on a cover makes for better sales, really, I didn’t,” Root Nibot explained. “Writing the monkeys was fantastic, because they’re such archetypes of various human aspects. But working with the other characters holds just as much joy, because when playing off the monkeys, the humans themselves seem more human.”

The BANANA SUNDAY trade paperback will be 6” x 9” and will feature a new cover by Colleen Coover. Scheduled to ship to stores in early March, it features 112 pages for $11.95. It will carry an ISBN # of 1-932664-37-8.
