Devil’s Due announces a new program designed to engage and hook readers on its new trade paperback and digest-sized (D3) releases: Try Before You Buy. As select books are readying for release, DDP will post the first chapter of the books on its website for a sneak peek. The program starts with Aftermath: DEFEX (APR052795), a trade paperback releasing in 4th quarter 2005, and Hack/ Slash: First Cut (JUL052786). Plans call for a new Try Before You Buy book to be posted every month. All previews are already up at (click on the book covers on the right).

“We feel so strongly about these titles,” said Vice President of Marketing Susan Bishop, “that we can’t help but show them off. It’s a ‘get-hooked-and-buy-the-book’ type of thing.”

Aftermath: DEFEX (4th Quarter 2005, ISBN: 1-932796-37-1, APR052795, $14.95, 144 pages, Marv Wolfman and Stefano Caselli) has already received a glowing review from the major trade publication, Booklist. An excerpt: “It has a youthful feel that will reach out to teens, and the characters are authentically flawed, giving readers the opportunity to identify with their triumphs and misfortunes. Caselli’s muscular art is funky and fun, with expressive line work that suits both the darkness and the comedy in the story.” Hack/Slash: First Cut (Halloween 2005, ISBN: 1-932796-42-8, JUL052786, $14.95, 160 pages, Tim Seeley, Stefano Caselli, Federica Manfredi and Various.)
