Somewhere out there, among the vast planes of Superman fan sites, lies a site that few have seen. It is a Superman site that contains information on nearly every Superman comic book ever published.

It is a site that  attempts to build a social networking home for all fans of the “Man of Steel”.  It allows users to post comments, review issues, and compile a database of the issues they own. Users can also chat  with each other and enjoy video games which award virtual trophies to the highest scores. But that is not  all: The site also contains daily news stories, information on television shows, including episode guides, and  more.

SupermanDatabase.com was  launched on August 14, 2006 by Superman comic book fan, Shannon Cronin of Los Angeles. Over the past year the site has undergone many design changes trying to find its niche and a way to stand on its own. This past month the site underwent a sweeping change in both design and content and is easily one of the best-looking Superman sites on the net.

Recently two Superman fan sites, SupermanThruTheAges.com and Jim Nolt’s George Reeves site have vanished into the Phantom Zone. With fans seeking an alternative to already existing Superman  web sites, or a replacement for sites that no longer exist, Superman Database is well worth a look.  Fans will quickly notice the time and effort that has gone into the site. Currently  approximately 72% of the people, who visit the site, bookmark it and return again and again.

In an attempt to build an audience, the site also hosts various contests  where users can win items such as comic books or action figures. Currently the site is offering the chance to win one of five “Supergirl Corrupted” action figures. The user needs to answer five Supergirl trivia questions and if they answer all of them correctly they are entered into a random drawing for one of the “Corrupted” figures. In January’s contest four people will have a chance to win one of four original “Superman II” posters. The real thing, we’re not talking reproductions here.

Sadly with all the time and effort that has gone into the site, many Superman fans are unaware that  it even exists. A search for “Superman” on  Google doesn’t mention the site until page seven of the search results, and many comic book news sites fail to mention the site, possibly because they too are unaware of its existence. Even with little fanfare, however, the site owner continues adding content daily, driven by hope that  more Superman fans will  have  the opportunity to  see and enjoy the site.
