NEW AVENGERS #3 pt. 3 (of 5) "THE RAFT"
Fate has brought them together and now Captain America wants to make it permanent! Who will take his hand and join the new Avengers? And where will they call home?
This issue, the reader sees more pieces of the puzzle put in place. The New Avengers have ASSEMBLED! Bendis handles the issue well, the way he starts it works nicely and sets up the rest of the issue. The way the new team comes together is OK, but the Luke Cage reason seemed a little lacking. I mean, he had/has Hero’s For Hire, with Danny Rand (Iron Fist) which does good, but I s’pose this is a minor fault. The new base of operations seems a logical move for Stark to do. It would be interesting to know if it has been mentioned before though. The end I’m sure is going to lead to a lot of discussion, but I don’t think it’s what it seems.
Finch has a knack of giving you that real perfect shot to open an issue up and sets the feel of what’s to come. He does it here with the S.H.I.E.L.D Hellicarrier in a crimson sky. We get to see Luke Cage throw done and we even get the little things, like the sun reflecting off Tony Stark’s armour when he’s talking to Cap. The one real misstep this issue was when we get to see the new base of operations. There isn’t a pop, a WOW factor about it, it just seems rather bland. The covers not to bad, but the shading kind of takes away so of the imposing aspect and maybe the raffled hair look would of worked better.
