Everything in the life of the X-Men is in disarray right now. The Institute, the beacon of safety & acceptance for mutantkind is destroyed and the ramifications of Magneto’s actions could bring more death and more sorrow.

This was a fantastic story and maybe now cats will finally leave Chuck alone. This was the perfect set up for the whole Reload. We see the journey characters have been on since the fateful end of Morrison’s arc and it was handled with real skill. Emotions are high, Jean died, the school was destroyed and hatred for mutants has risen. So what’s the sentiment within the X-Men, are they happy, has Scott forgotten about Jean?

The chemistry between Austen and Larroca is so in sync: it’s a joy to look upon and resonates throughout the pages. From Emma’s mannerisms and the subtleties when talking with the Cuckoos, to the anger of the mob, to Beasts agility, to Scott’s remorse and silent resolution at the end, Larroca portrays all with true finesse. And he draws a great Beast :) And that last panel, what a fitting way to end on.
