Who remembers The Great Escape, the classic Steve McQueen flick? Well if you do and loved it, this is definitely for you. If you haven’t seen it never fear cause this book is edge of your seat business and if picked up, it’ll hook you no matter what. Like the rest of the CROSSGEN books, you don’t need to pick up any of the others to get this (even though it’s nice to see little things come together), so you have no excuses.

What would happen if you lost a really close friend, a loved one even? They died in an act of heroism to save your life. Can you let it go as an act of God or would you blame the person you felt put you in this situation? This is the question Bedard is addressing within the book. The problem I feel though, is that Bedard, instead of making the change in the characters mindset more gradual and subtle, it seems to of been too forced, jus to get to a point in the story.

The problem with the recent glut of CROSSGEN books has been the art. And that’s what is letting this book down. Kane (most notably) and the others seem to of gotten younger. All their features are smooth. The lines of experience, worry, fear have all vanished. This lapse takes away a lot of the emphasis of the story. And this also turns what could have been a poignant cover into just an image!
