You know that part at the end of Neon Genesis Evangelion, like maybe the last two episodes, when you’ve completely given up on the series making any sense whatsoever, and so have the filmmakers? When the giant robots stop fighting and the main characters just sit and talk while black and white photos flash by? Take that general feeling of metaphysical confusion, mix it with stark, Sin City-eque animation, and you have Flutter, the award-winning NFB short that captured the Best Quebecois Short Film prize at the 2007 Fantasia Film Festival. The film is beautiful and mysterious, and gave me a headache much smaller than the one I got when I finished up Neon Genesis Evangelion.
