Thunder Bay, Ontario. Admittedly, the name of the city might conjure up images of a Norse god, swinging his hammer with such force the Earth itself dents and fills with black water, creating a proud, hard land full of proud, hard people. Unless you’ve been there. Then, it churns up the smell of sulfur mixed with Tim Hortons. The people are proud of nothing but how many teeth the local minor league hockey star has left in his head, and the fact that there’s running water. The short film Bride Of Christ, from the city, is a lightly humorous confessional that’s about exactly as strange as you feel when you stop into a Wendy’s near Thunder Bay on the way to Toronto, and the locals look at your iPod like it’s a lightsaber, and you like you might be barbecue flavored.
