How Simone described the feeling of a martial artist being mastering her craft is obsessively good. Canary tells to herself “No matter how joyous and loving a life you choose to live- - that’s always there, the worm in the apple. Shake hands with a new person and take note of their nerve clusters and pressure points.” If one needed to understand how it felt to be in the Black Canary’s shoes, these two sentences are all that are needed.
Gail Simone is starting to make this character transcend whatever shallow existence she had before giving her a unique voice in the comic book world and a reason for being Lady Shiva’s main foil. It is believable and why this series is one of the best written one I read from DC Comics. I really like to see a classic in the making.
The artwork is good. My only question is why is Shiva suddenly wearing Black Canary’s garb? I remember them taking the last issue. Is this one of the demands Black Canary demanded from her? One thing has to be said. Shiva does not look good in fishnets. I don’t know why. Maybe with a blonde wig, it would work!
