Starring: Grant Gustin, Danielle Nicolet

Produced by: Berlanti Productions

The main thrust of this week’s episode deals with a dark matter eating zombie, delightfully named Mitch Romero. He figures into the advancing storyline of Ramsey Rosso (Sendhil Ramamurthy). The visuals for Romero are really well done, and Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) gets some good scenes with Rosso, but overall it was the subplots that captured my interest.

I am really loving all the screen time being given to Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker). We see her struggling to cope with the news about the Crisis, and also having an over the top birthday blast. Frost is clearly a lot more fun to play than Caitlin Snow, and I’m happy that the show is treating the audience to it.

I was also really impressed with Ralph Dibny’s (Hartley Sawyer) plot thread, which introduces his mother. She is accused of robbery, and Cecile Horton (Danielle Nicolet) becomes her first client now that she has become a defense attorney. The two women get a fun scene at a poker game, while Ralph gathers some needed evidence. I was fairly sure there would be some plot twist along the way. To be honest, I was sure that mother Dibny’s alibi would turn out to be a lie, and she would be guilty of the crime. There is, indeed, a plot twist, but it’s not the one I was expecting. We wind up learning a lot more about Ralph thanks to it.

Throughout the episode Barry struggles with concealing the knowledge he learned in the previous episode, about the necessity for his death in the Crisis, from his friends. He does, finally, open up to them before the episode is out. I suppose that’s a spoiler, but a fairly low level one. Given that this year Arrow appears immediately after The Flash, I like the way that this series keeps teasing the upcoming Crisis, while Arrow is totally enmeshed in it.

Rating: 9/10
