Snyder and Tynion continue to explore the effects of the shattering of the Source Wall in the latest issue of Justice League. It’s really quite impressive how well they have sustained this. There has been one continuous plot thread developing since the first issue of the book, and yet there was no trouble integrating Drowned Earth, or the Legion of Doom issues.

This issue has two scenes relating to Starman, mostly a set up for what is to come. The bulk of the issue, as the cover implies, is set on Thanagar. John Stewart and the Martian Manhunter accompany Hawkgirl there, as J’onn J’onzz hopes to speak more with the living memory of his planet.

The story takes a very interesting twist, having them meet Shayera Hol. Kendra and Shayera are both fully cognizant of being eternally reincarnated lovers of Hawkman. It seems that both should not be existing at the same time. Kendra is not comfortable with that situation, though Shayera presents an interesting solution, that their personalities split along the way, each developing into a different person.

That may or may not be true. There is a big twist before the ending, and clearly more to the situation on Thanagar than is apparent to the heroes at this point.

Even though this issue is a bit low on action and big on talk, it was entirely compelling, and I found myself just breezing through it.
