In part one of "Wild Blue Yonder," Peter Parker’s life is turned upside down. He’s got an incredible new pad (you won’t believe where), a new job, and -- although he doesn’t know it -- a new nemesis who’s everything that Peter isn’t. But first, Spider-Man’s got to deal with a more pressing problem – a shape-shifting super-villain who’s developed a nasty habit…and will do anything to feed it. And Wait – Who’s that hitting on Mary Jane!?!

I’ve been loving what Hudlin’s been doing on Black Panther, So I had high hopes for his Spider-man. Boom baby, I was NOT let down!!! Straight off the bat, the thing you notice is the sharp dialogue. Then it’s the humour and fun, but don’t be mistaken, cause the story definitely isn’t silly. Hudlin uses Peter’s circumstances really well. We see the teacher, Avenger and a few other things, thrown into the mix and used organically to help tell an engaging story, that is both smart and fresh (and checkout the under tone). I have to say I was real irritated at the end, as I was so hooked, I wanted to know what was gonna pop off.

Its funny how things on the net look different from when you’re actually holding it in your hands. This book is a real good example of that. You really get thrown through a loop at first, as Tan’s interpretation of some of the characters is mad different from what you’re used to. When this has been absorbed though, things start to hit. Like the way he captures the youthful innocence of the children, Wolverine’s (don’t F’ with me) nature. But the thing that seemed to really jump off the page was Spider-man. Tan really infuses him with a fluidity, which smacks of grace and agility.

Report Card - B+

Koncise an out :)
