More murders are laid on the Man-Bat's doorstep and now Batman finally confronts his old antagonist directly. But other parties may be involved, including Black Mask, Hush and the Flash's old foe, Murmur. There is a genuine sense of mood, mystery and menace in this mini-series but there are also a few false notes that just look out of place. Such the scene where Batman gets clawed in the face and reacts-- by yelling out a bunch of rhetorical questions to a Man-Bat who obviously can't answer him. The art, while adding to the tone, also makes things a bit confusing. Did the guy on the highway turn into Man-Bat or did another creature come swooping down on them? Did that Japanese guy know that there was someone in his backseat all along or was he just the dumbest person in comics? These things may seem like small details but they help break the spell of horror that the creative team is trying to cast over the readers.
