The world's supervillains have suddenly declared themselves as the world's benefactors. Meanwhile, the main members of the Justice League are being taken out one by one in a series of well-coordinated sneak attacks. This forces the JLA reservists to step up to the plate, particularly Captain Marvel who gets one of his best depictions ever as he takes down a gang of Superman's arch foes. There is also a good dust-up between Cheetah and Wonder Woman that emphasizes the Amazon warrior's restraint rather than her ferocity. The details behind the villains' plot is still kept secret but the bad guys seem to be carrying out their assignments with such determination and sincerity, you almost admire them. The end-result is an entertaining book with a challenge that is really pushing the JLA to its limits. The art is quite good even if it isn't one of Alex Ross's painted works. One key detail: this miniseries is not set in mainstream continuity so don't expect things to conform to what is "canon" in today's comics. Think of it as a modernized version of the Silver Age.
