DC COMICS WRITER: Brad Meltzer ARTISTS: Rags Morales, Michael Bair COVER: Michael Turner
Don't expect much action in this issue. There are no serious fights and no new murders. Instead, the mystery behind the killing of Sue Dibny gets even harder to unravel. Meltzer throws so many clues around, it is almost impossible to tell which ones are real and which are red herrings. Still, the story continues to be gripping and highly interesting although the cliffhanger at the end, really isn't that suspenseful. Aside from the murder mystery, the look into the superhero and supervillain subcultures are highly original and immensely entertaining in themselves. Even if they aren't that relevant to uncovering the killer, these sequences, like Captain Boomerang's talk with his kid and Slipknot's 'religious' conversion, sure are fun to read.
The art is quite good, giving each character his or her own individual face and telling the story effectively through expressions and body language. Still, Morales does draw a rather chunky-looking Superman. Maybe Clark should lay off the Kryptonian doughnuts for awhile.
