Guy Gardner gets some R and R on a resort planet, only to be attacked by the glory-seeking Bolphunga the unrelenting. That normally wouldn't be a problem except that Guy's ring is mysteriously inaccessible. There are also separate subplots involving other new Lanterns, Soranik Natu, Isamot Kol and Vath Sarn involving an attack on Thanagar and the sorrow of informing a family about the death of a Lantern. Despite the multiple storylines, this issue is very well-paced, giving us just enough of each Lantern to keep us interested without taking too much time from the other characters. Gibbons' dialogue has also improved as it now flows more naturally. But his pencils seem to have suffered. In the first pages, he does very good work but in the latter part, especially the scenes of Guy and Bolphunga in the elevator, it ends up looking rather stiff. Perhaps Gibbons was running out of time and had to rush these last pages.
