Ezra: Evoked Emotions #1
By Christopher Moshier
October 8, 2006 - 00:52
Arcana’s best selling character is back in an all new mini-series. I’ve followed Ezra since her first appearance back in 2002 and to me the character has always been Red Sonja or Xena: Warrior Princess to me. Her story takes place in a sword and sorcery world where Ezra is a wise cracking mercenary for hire.
The events from the first series drive Ezra’s motivations for Evoked Emotions. She doesn’t play the role of the mercenary this time out. This time “it’s personal”. Yes, very cliché and so is the entire issue. There is nothing new here. O’Reilly does manage to sum up the previous series; setup the action meets humor tone of the character, and foreshadows what is to come. Beyond that you have a five minute read with very pretty pictures. And speaking of the art – specifically the main story – it is a beauty in itself, but way to cartoonie for the character. The backup story seems pointless, but again the art is fantastic. And just look at the front cover. That is enough to put in a frame and hang it as a conversational piece.
If you love great art and a well paced story then you’ll love Ezra: Evoked Emotions #1. If you want something original - that perhaps you've never seen before in a comic - then you won’t find it here.
