Electronic Arts announced today that its Los Angeles studio is developing the game that will conclude the award-winning Tiberium series, in Command & Conquer 4. After almost 15 years, across three different studios (really the same studio under different names after the acquisition by Electronic Arts) and 30 million copies sold, Electronic Arts is bringing the Command & Conquer series to what it expects to be its “epic conclusion” next year.

The important thing to note with all of this is that, since they are bringing a 15 year old story to its close, it's probably not going to be any simple little thing. It's gonna be big! “Command & Conquer is a powerful franchise with an amazing 15-year legacy. We are thrilled to bring the dramatic Tiberium saga to a conclusion in Command & Conquer 4. This game is designed to give fans all the answers they’ve been looking for,” said Mike Glosecki, Lead Producer of Command & Conquer 4 at EA Los Angeles. “With its objective-based multiplayer mode, persistent player progression and all-in-one mobile base, players will experience Command & Conquer like never before.”
That's another major factor in the development of this game. The team isn't just trying to finish it up and get it over and done with, they're still innovating and bringing new features in. Command & Conquer 4 will feature class-based gameplay, mobile bases and “persistent player progression” across all game modes. And in addition to the two campaigns, which players can choose to play in solo or cooperative mode, the game will also include a new five-on-five objective-based multiplayer mode that focuses on promoting teamwork and cooperation. They're trying to create something that has never been seen in a Command & Conquer title before.
Command & Conquer 4 is scheduled to ship for PC some time in 2010 and has not yet been rated. For more information on the game, and the franchise itself, check out www.commandandconquer.com.
