Lady Shiva continues to her quest to understand the Black Canary by taking her place with the Birds of Prey who are protecting the turncoat villain the Crime Doctor and protecting his daughter. Meanwhile, the Black Canary continues her training to become the become a better martial artist. Can even Shiva stop flying Hive grunts?

One thing this issue demonstrated very well was the ladies team work. Each of them had their part to play. Even Lady Blackhawk seemed more useful than usual and shows that she is also a tough woman. Of course, no one is as tough as Lady Shiva and the fear she provokes in Gypsy was fun to watch. This type of subtle humour works quite well. Subtlety, being one of Simone’s strength, she shared some insight about some of the trauma she went through to become the word’s best martial artist. Truly, Simone should be Shiva’s designated main writer. The character never seems two dimensional as she does in other comic book series.

Siqueira is a good replacement for Joe Bennet. Like several Birds of Prey artists before him he follows the character designs set forth by Ed Benes. Although I have not heard of this artist very much in the past, he’s a solid professional with good storytelling and a sense for pacing. I would like to see how his work would fare if handled by another inker. This series is headed in the right direction.
