Continuing a story begun in DETECTIVE COMICS, this issue has Batman and Robin going after Poison Ivy even while a mysterious vigilante continues killing off B-list Batman villains. The issue is a marked improvement over the first installment of this tale as it showcases the effect that the return of Batman has on Gotham's citizens. Batman is still rather cold and unsympathetic but at least Robin is around to give us someone to care about. The story is rather slim and all in all, this issue is just setting the stage for the main plotline about the mystery vigilante. Perhaps we should be grateful Robinson actually gave us some action instead of having a whole issue devoted to talking heads and stock poses. The Kramer-Champagne team has really shown a vast improvement from their early work in JSA. There is even some clever experimentation with layouts as the Dynamic Duo are shown leaping amid killer vegetation without any firm lines defining each panel. This experiment works on some pages. On others, it just looks confusing. But at least they tried.
