Batgirl # 71
DC COMICS
WRITER: Andersen Gabrych
ARTISTS: Pop Mhan, Jesse Delperdang
COVER: Tim Sale

Batgirl and a group of martial artists are attacked by Lady Shiva and her own band of assassins. There are lots of fights with unexpected endings. Something big-- and potentially lethal-- is obviously coming up for the title character and the creative team is clearly setting the stage for this. While the action is gripping, the story lacks a sense that something important is at stake. The deaths of certain characters may come as a shock but we never really get to know them so it is hard to care. The art is just fine considering all the bodies that go flying about in the shadows but the fight scenes could certainly have been better laid out. Batgirl's character is being nicely-fleshed out though. It would be a shame to lose her just when she is coming out into her own.
