On December 24, 2010, Club Sunday, the Web comic of Japanese magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday started publishing Cyborg 009 after an 18-year hiatus.

Cyborg 009, begun in 1964 was created by master cartoonist Shotaro Ishinomori . The series has been adapted several times for television and film and has proven popular for many generations.

The new Cyborg 009 series was spearheaded by a completion of anime and manga screenwriters called the Cyborg 009 Manga Award. Guided by Club Sunday’s editorial team, Grand prize winner,  screenwriter Ryouta Yamaguti wrote the new story based original unpublished works and character available from Shotaro Ishinomori’s work over the years.  Yamaguti is best known to anime fans as the writer of several Sailor Moon Sailor Stars, Digimon: Data Squad, and Project Blue Earth SOS.

The series is published in the same magazine that Shotaro Ishinomori originally published Cyborg 009. The only difference will be the omnipresence of new devices such as modern smartphones in the world of Cyborg 009. Were Ishinomori alive today, he would have probably made use of them in his stories!
