Young Justice get sent on a truly madcap journey through the multiverse in this issue, sent by the rulers of Gemworld, who want to dispose of them, and ensure that Amethyst never returns.
While the bulk of the tale is devoted to the craziness in the parallel universes that the team visits, there is still some characterization and development of the members of the team. Most particularly, the extremely different responses that Superboy and Impulse have to the first few worlds.
But the silliness doesn’t ruin the issue, and eventually they wind up in the Kingdom Come world. Here, things take a darker turn. It’s the Kingdom Come universe, of course they do. The members of Young Justice need to tread carefully, just to be allowed to go free and leave that dimension.
Teen Lantern’s interactions with Alan Scott are quite good in this part, and the growing mystery of Jinny Hex’s box develops nicely. We still have no idea what is inside, but it sure is making a lot of people uncomfortable.
I wouldn’t say this is one of the more important issues of the run. Nothing major is resolved or revealed. But it’s absolutely enjoyable nevertheless. A fun chapter, and there is nothing wrong with that.
